Reviews are an invaluable contribution that the internet has made to almost every sphere of life. Many of us who plan holidays online often rely on reviews not just of destinations, but more specifically those of hotels, guesthouses, tourist spots and sights etc.
Holidays are meant to be a time to relax and unwind and have a good time, but if planned incorrectly, and sometimes due to sheer bad luck, holidays can turn into disasters. It makes sense to err on a cautious side and take care that you do everything you possibly can to ensure a good holiday.
An hotel may seem exceptionally good on their website, as the entire purpose of the website is to promote their business. However, reality could be far different from what you were expecting to find! Finding reviews of places before your stay or book an hotel is a good idea.
Not all reviews are reliable and it is easy for businesses to self promote by way of fake reviews. It is also easy for rival businesses to wrongly cause disrepute through false reviews. So how do you escape spurious reviews and find some real and truthful information? There is no way to tell if a review is false or not, but one can usually tell from the website that it is featured on, and the amount of detail and quality of content whether it is real or not.
Reviews are not the be all and end all of information. They are subjective and can often be just an opinion. A single review alone cannot be used to make a decision about a place, if everything else about it, such as location, prices etc. are right for you.
